Your Coffee Scrub Part 2 of 2

Hands down your coffee scrub is a simply natural, inexpensive way of caring for your skin. When you make it yourself, you know exactly what you are using; and by extension the benefits of each ingredient. It is natural because you will be using only natural products such as certified, “top class” coffee from the Blue Mountains Jamaica; and inexpensive because you can first enjoy coffee tea or coffee drink then, recycle the beans to make your scrub, thereby doubling the benefits. Now lets get into what we are here for.

As stated in Part 1 of our post everything you will need for your scrub, you already have in your kitchen cupboards.  You will need:

  • ½ cup ground coffee beans (those you’ve been storing from making coffee)
  • ½ cup cane sugar/ epsom salt
  • ¼ cup extra virgin coconut oil
  • a few drops of lavender oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 Mason jar with lid (we highly recommend that you use a glass one)

The process is simply combining your stored grounded coffee with your favorite moisturizing oil, epsom salt or sugar (for that extra exfoliation) and then storing it in a mason jar, preferable glass.  Make sure to mix well all the ingredients. We recommend using mountain coffee available

Please note: never microwave your oils. If for example your coconut oil is in a solid form simply put the required amount in a container and let it sit in a bowl of hot water until it returns to its liquid state. Secondly, wait until it cools before combining it with the other ingredients to prevent the heat from breaking down or dissolving them.

And there you have it, your very own organic Blue Mountain Jamaica Coffee Scrub. Below is a list of the ingredients and some of their benefits.

  • Coffee Bean
Coffee beans are filled with antioxidants making it a natural anti-inflammatory agent and this is very good for the skin. The coffee in this scrub will therefore exfoliates, firms and softens the skin as caffeine is said to pull excess moisture from the skin leaving it looking and feeling smoother and firmer.
  • Organic Sugar/ Epsom Salt
The organic cane sugar with its coarseness acts a second exfoliator, ensuring the removal of dead skin cells. You may use Epsom Salt instead which is said to aid in the alleviation of tension, pain and muscle cramps.  It’s also a great facial cleanser and it softens and smoothen the skins well. It is claimed to ease stress and aids in the relaxation of the body.
  • Coconut Oil
Well, we are all aware of the benefits of coconut oil but for those who may have forgotten it is a superb moisturizing ingredient that is filled with vitamins and minerals; hence, the reason its such a popular beauty ingredient.
  • Cinnamon
Cinnamon is said to diminish fine lines, unclog pores, treat acne and is a natural antiseptic that kills bacteria. It softens and soothes dry skin and its also improves complexion.
  • Lavender oil
The obvious benefit from using this ingredient is its aroma. What you may not know or remember is that is also tones and firms the skin. It detoxifies the skin by fighting against the effects of pollutants and inhibiting the growth of bacteria on the skin.

You may also add honey to your scrub. If you don’t like coconut oil you could use shea butter or a moisturizing oil of your choice such as avocado, jojoba or a combination of your favorite oils. Just make sure you read up on the oils’ and their uses before starting your experiment. Regardless of your choice, I am sure you will create something lovely. Whenever you do please share with us so we can either try and or improve on that which we already know. Together we will bring creativity and holistic living to the coffee market. Thanks and have a wonderful week from Bryshau Coffee.
